A message from Health Georgina

June 2020

Hello Georgina. Let’s start by extending our thoughts and prayers to those of you who are separated from friends, family, and loved ones be it those you cannot visit in long term care facilities or just due to social distancing. To any of you who have lost family or friend our deepest condolences.

Health Georgina has not stopped during this COVID-19 pandemic. Our building committee has been meeting regularly with the town of Georgina, Lsrca, and the region to move the construction of the nurse practitioner’s clinic in jackson’s Point ahead. Working with Michael Smith planning we have applied for site plan approval and building permit. We have engaged Provision as architect and preliminary drawings are on hand.

Our board has welcomed 2 new members: Daryl Urquhart and Melissa Pestil both of whom bring valuable first-hand medical background.

Our Facebook page is generating lots of interest and positive feedback please like and follow us at Health Georgina on Facebook. Today we created our Instagram account so follow us at Health_Georgina. We have begun work on setting up our new website.

Our chair, Suzanne Howes, has been working with river glen haven and Sandgate Women’s shelter to help with supply of ppe, meals, and much more.

Our vice chair, Steve Jacobson, created SOSgeorgina to help supply free home-made masks to front line workers at long term care facilities and group homes throughout Georgina, and to residents who have health issues or are undergoing medical care.

The board of Health Georgina would again like to express our sincere thanks to Michael Smith of Michael Smith Planning, who is continuing to work tirelessly on our behalf pro bono, Mark Altwerger of Altwerger Law, also pro bono, and to Mayor Margaret Quirk and the Town of Georgina staff who are helping fast track our needs to make the nurse practitioners clinic in Jackson’s Point happen in a timely matter.

Lastly Health Georgina extends our extreme thanks to frontline and essential workers in Georgina and their families.

Stay safe and enjoy your summer.
